The Burning Bowl Ceremony has become a beloved annual tradition at WVCSL. Join us in releasing the old and making way for the new.
The New Year is upon us and offers the promise that we can leave behind that which no longer serves us, and it gives us the opportunity to begin fresh and new. In this season of shorter days, the darkness offers us the opportunity to look at our core, to give us the chance to release unwanted conditions in our life, to go of an old way of being, and make room for new beginnings. Many of us can feel the need to heal through releasing old patterns of some kind. It may be a quiet tap we can hear, and it may be the loud and obvious need for change.
The late American Protestant minister, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, once wrote: “There is a spiritual giant within you, which is always struggling to burst its way out of the prison you have made for it.” THE BURNING BOWL CEREMONY is a transformative ritual designed to identify and symbolically release the old year, and to invite in what you want as you begin a new year. This ritual focuses on letting go of old hurts, grudges, resentments, regrets, sufferings, mistakes, thoughts, feelings, behaviors or patterns that might be holding you back in some fashion. It is a simple outward sign of our awareness of what needs to change in our lives, and to prepare the present moment for the creation of the upcoming year as we consciously go forward.
Across religious traditions, fire is a powerful symbol of wisdom, knowledge, passion, purification, transformation, divinity and light. Fire inflames, consumes, warms, illuminates, inspires and serves as a catalyst for change. This Burning Bowl Ceremony is a fire ceremony designed to help us listen and be still so that you can hear your authentic self and create intentions that are meaningful and filled with purpose.
Thich Nhat Hahn teaches us, “If we face our unpleasant feelings with care, affection, and nonviolence, we can transform them into the kind of energy that is healthy and has the capacity to nourish us.”
Please join us in this wonderful ritual that honors any intention to let go in a concrete way.
